Stoned

We had the river stone delivered yesterday. It looks a little plain right now but low to no maintenance is what we're going for. The grass bushes are supposed to get up to 4' wide so they should look nice after some time.

Still needs a lot of work but it's progress!

Landscaping Duty

From Happy Gilmore:
Nursing Home Orderly: Good news, everybody, we're extending arts and crafts time by four hours today.
Elderly Woman: My fingers hurt.
Nursing Home Orderly: What's that?
Elderly Woman: My fingers hurt.
Nursing Home Orderly: Oh, well, now your back's gonna hurt, 'cause you just pulled landscaping duty. Anybody else's fingers hurt?... I didn't think so.

My fingers, arms, back, legs, you name it, they all hurt. Roy and I were on landscaping duty all weekend pulling overgrown bushes out at the stone house. The pulling bushes part was the easiest because we borrowed his dad's skid loader. The hauling the bushes away, loading, and unloading part was grueling. Plus raking, removing concrete and (really) heavy steel edgers, bagging weeds and sweeping. All the work paid off though as you can see from the before and after photos below.

There's the skid loader on the right - it is a beast.

We planted two maiden grass bushes in the front and planted grass seeds along the side of the house, the walkway and the driveway. We plan to put river stone between the front of the house and the front walkway for easy maintenance. Once the stone is in and the grass grows I think the front yard will look so much bigger. If only my mom were alive to see this - I think she would have been very happy!

Hail of Bullets

I've been meaning to update this blog but I feel like I'm all over the place with ideas. I can't seem to focus on a topic, so here's a hail of bullets!

  • Got braces on my lower teeth last week. Last year I got quotes for Invisalign (upper and lower) and also braces on lower and Simply 5 on the upper (similar to Invisalign but in 5 steps). The braces option was about $2K less so here I am, back to having a (half) metal mouth. I used to have braces as a teenager and since I've neglected to wear retainers since then, I'm back to square one. My teeth aren't as bad this time around but I can tell they are shifting in weird ways. Trying to nip it in the bud now because the year will go by whether I have braces or not, right? I'll be getting the clear top aligner in a couple weeks.

  • We dropped my cousins off on Monday at JFK airport and they made it safely to Jakarta, Indonesia after about 35 hours of total travel time. They are visiting their father who is over there for work. I wish I could have gone with but I don't think I could have gotten 7 weeks off from work. They'll be back at the end of July. I'm so jellie!

  • Went to a Team Reflections Pool Party and celebrated all our accomplishments from the past synchro season. I was named "Most Improved Skater" on the adult team. Not to sound cocky but I was kind of expecting it. I was watching some video footage of our routines and I sucked pretty bad, LOL. If I didn't improve then I would be really disappointed. I'm really looking forward to next season and improving even more.

  • In other skating news, my coach and I decided to postpone the pre-bronze test until July. Need to make it more consistent and trying to make the elements more solid rather than "good enough." But I did land a clean flip jump last week - finally!

  • Taking a half day today and hitting up Hersheypark. The weather finally cleared up. We had to move the boat to City Island just in case the river would rise to 10+ feet, but it looks like it won't get that high.

That's all for now. Next up: Landscaping duty at the stone house. Yay.
Have a great weekend!
